Introduction to projection mapping

In the intersection of technology and wilderness, this project redefines the concept of land art for the digital age. Using cutting-edge projection mapping techniques, remote natural landscapes are transformed into ephemeral canvases, creating a dialogue between the ancient and the modern. This ultra-compact setup allows us to venture into the most secluded corners of the natural world. There, we use the contours of rocks and stones as the foundation for our digital artworks, temporarily altering these timeless formations with light and motion. This project challenges the permanence traditionally associated with land art, offering instead a fleeting, luminous experience that leaves no trace. It invites viewers to reconsider their relationship with nature, technology, and art itself, all while preserving the integrity of these wild spaces. All the light effects are done in real life, every image is a single exposure. I'm currently fine-tuning the technical setup to be able to reach even more places and create even larger installations. "As I look around I can feel the salty, humid air entering my lungs. I can still feel the long hike with all the gear I needed, but my worry is now about the equipment. The projector was setup in the water so I have the right angle matching the rock's surface. The camera is only 2 inches from the water to get the reflection right. And my laptop is sitting on top of a mossy rock. Even if none of them touches the water, the air is full of particles as the waves crash into the volcanic rocks. Am I worried? Of course yes. But when I turn on the setup, the magic happens, the starry sky above is matched by a companion lit by a human and suddenly the worry goes away."
